Our Story

Our story began in 1999, when Mum (Dianne) bought a small chocolate shop in Beach Haven Village. With Nana as head chocolatier, Dad keeping the books, Grandad fixing anything that broke, and two small kids (Thom & Tori) mostly helping by eating the chocolate — a family chocolate business was born.

What started as one little shop slowly grew into five, filled with handmade chocolates, long days, and many sweet memories.

After many wrong pronunciation, we decided in 2010 to translate La Maison Du Chocolat into English — a fitting change that felt true to our roots.

In 2015, Thom, fresh out of university and full of design ideas, made his mark on the business. Over the next five years, alongside his wife, helped shape a new era of chocolates and gave the brand a new identity that reflected who we were. At the same time, they spearheaded our newest venture: a dessert café in Takapuna, serving delicious late-night desserts for the next 10 years.

By 2022, after more than two decades, we had outgrown our home. Mum was ready to slow down, and Tori (me) — who had grown up in the chocolate factory since the age of two — was ready to step into the next chapter.

From dipping chocolates with Nana as a little girl to serving customers in the shop as my very first job, chocolate has always been part of my story and I'm excited to continue the legacy of craft chocolate making.
